The organization that terrorized many African American civilians became known as the popular Ku Klux Klan (KKK). The Ku Klux Klan is an organization that began during the civil war era. How the Ku Klux Klan was created is an interesting story, and digging deeper leaves you filled with curiosity of why. With a lot of research taken place over a course of several weeks, our information gathered was interesting to read about. The Ku Klux Klan has been an active society that has affected many individuals. Over the past few weeks we have researched the origins, leaders, history, and beliefs to understand more about this disorganized association.
The founders of this secret organization was a group of former confederate veterans. The leader who has the most credit for starting this organization was named Nathan Bedford Forrest. He was labeled as the “Grand Wizard.” This secret society was established to terrorize blacks, lesbians, gays, and any other race that was not white. If you were a white individual and claimed to be a Christian, you were safe from the KKK, and could possibly join the organization. Catholics were discluded. If you were not for the cult, you were against it and were considered an enemy no matter what ethnicity.
