Reading the novel “Slaughterhouse-Five” by Kurt Vonnegut was very rewarding. The book itself is a great book that talks about Vonnegut own war experiences through the character of Billy Pilgrim. Reading the novel gave me a better understanding of what an individual might go through during war and the bombing of Dresden. Vonnegut writes about an important and controversial event in history through science fiction and interesting highly at times psychotic story telling which just makes the reader more intrigued to finish reading the rest of the novel. The characters of the Tralfamadorian as a human left me thinking about the importance of time and memories and how humans live life with the mentality that one day everything would come to an end, when it should be the opposite. As humans with a date of expiration we should enjoy each moment both good and bad not be stuck in those moments of sadness we can’t no longer change. Vonnegut through the characters of the Tralfamadorian does an amazing job remaining its readers the importance of time. The Tralfamadorian are a group of tresteteal creatures that could look into the past, present and future especially does moments that highly interest them the most. “It is just an illusion here on Earth that one moment follows another one, like beads on a string, and that once a moment is gone, it is gone forever.” As humans we have been trained to think a little different towards time. We value time and every moment because once that moment is gone is gone forever because we don’t have the ability to go back and relive that exact moment we want it to last forever. That is why many say we only get one life which we need to make it count. The novel as a student, person and female leaves me questioning the way I spend my time and makes me realize how important time
