L & D Nurse Personal Statement

As a child growing up, there are many things that one usually aspires to be. However, many factors influence one’s choices. The most influential factor that led me to pursue a career in nursing was the time I spent caring for my grandmother, who was diagnosed with cancer. As I contemplated what to write, emotions ran high as I reflected on my past and recalled seeing my grandmother struggle during her illness. However, I will not let this deter me from achieving my dream. I planned on completing NUR 411 and taking the NCLEX as soon as I graduate from BMCC. After I obtain my Registered Nurse license, I plan to work in a city hospital on a medical-surgical floor or L& D unit. Terri Oppenheimer (2021) added, “Some hospitals allow L&D nurses to apply directly out of school, while others may prefer nurses to have some experience on the general Med-Surg floor." As a result, this will allow me to attain the hours of working experience required to become a certified nurse in the department of my choice. Since most hospitals offer tuition assistance, my intent is to be involved and work with such an organization so that I can either be enrolled in an online BSN program or attend the CUNY SPS program in order to attain the appropriate certifications for my chosen
