QP engaged Maunica in participating in a CBT activity geared towards emotional response. QP explained to Maunica that the activity will help her to learn the event is causing the emotion, the interpretation of the event and how to use mindfulness skills in observing and deciding. QP asked Maunica to list some emotions people have. QP brainstormed with Maunica things that prompts events of emotional reactions in people. QP assisted Maunica in participating in a mindfulness exercise.
In “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry, the author uses diction like abstract diction and details by explaining what he exactly wants in life to demonstrate Walter and his dream. To begin, Hansberry uses diction to demonstrate Walter and his dream by using abstract diction. She does this by explaining how he will give Travis anything for his seventeenth birthday and that he will “hand you the world!” (2.2). This shows that he wants to make his sons life as good as possible.

QP brainstormed with Maunica things that can escalate a person’s anger. QP asked Maunica to identify the things that escalates her anger.
In Ada Maria Isasi-Diaz Mujerista Discourse: A platform for Latinas’ Subjugated Knowledge, she talks about the term “Lo Cotidiano” which translates to “the everyday” (Isasi-Diaz pg. 46), and she explains how this term is more complex than the actual meaning. She also explains that ‘lo cotidiano’ and the way every person lives their ‘cotidiano’ connects with the main idea of Mujerista Discoourse. In her writing, she discusses some personal experiences which bring a better understanding to the true meaning of lo ‘cotidiano’. Isasi-Diaz gives an in-depth explanation to what ‘lo cotidiano’ really means, or what it should mean.
The excerpt taken from Barrio Boy is wrapped around the idea of adapting and accepting change, while being proud of what you’ve had before the adaptation. In the opening paragraphs, we are greeted with writings about a new, nervous Mexican-American student named Ernesto Galarza. Over the course of the text, Galarza develops the central idea of being proud of your heritage, with phrases such as, “... making us into Americans did not mean scrubbing away what made us originally foreign,” and, “It was easy for me to feel that becoming a proud American… did not mean feeling ashamed of being a Mexican.” Through several snippets of the excerpt like, “... never let us forget why we were at Lincoln: for those who were alien, to become good Americans;
Nicolas Enriquez’s piece titled The Virgin of Guadalupe with the Four Apparitions depicts the Virgin mother Mary as she revealed herself to a newly transformed Christian Native named Juan Diego. This 1773 painting is a reproduction of the 1531believed arheiropoeita of Virgin Mary when she descends on Mount Tepeyac and tells Indian Juan Diego to go inform the bishop that a temple shall be built for her. The Virgin of Guadalupe is an iconic piece of Catholicism in Mexico and holds religious and cultural importance to both Spaniards and the Natives of Mexico, such as the Nahuatl. Enriquez’s painting has several deviations from the original arheiropoetia, such as different color choice and addition of Nahuatl symbols, which portrays his painting
Cesar Chavez wrote a piece in the magazine of religious organization on the ten year anniversary of Martin Luther King. He starts off saying that Dr. King was a very powerful man with nonviolent means. Throughout his writing he gives many example of why nonviolence will ultimately succeed over violent means, and give of many appeals of emotional, logical, creditable justification. Dr. King may have dies, but with his death only more power has come to the peaceful citizens of the world.
Winston works for “The Ministry of Truth” in which they rewrite history, but they had a significant slogan. The slogan that they had was “ War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength”. After reading this, the reader could tell that they are using irony to run their society. War is Peace, means that in their society, keeping the people believe that constant war is actually a way of maintaining peace, and if there is constant war, then the people of this society are constantly giving, sacrificing, and pledging devotion to their government, which ends up giving the government more power. In Equiano's personal slave narrative, "The Life of Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavus Vassa, the African", Equiano flips the idea that the African people are backwards and barbaric, thus ripe for slavery, by demonstrating his personal exceptionalism through his literacy to show that it is truly the white people who are backwards and barbaric through their own hypocrisy. This reversal that Equiano demonstrates in his slave narrative shows that the savagery of African people exists as a misconception and makes the reader fully grasp the need to abolish slavery and any inequality present. On page seventy-eight, Equiano uses first person pronouns like 'I', 'my', and 'me' to separate himself from the other African people and whites around him. This separation that Equiano creates demonstrates his exceptionalism as an African slave.
The Candie's Foundation is a non-profit organization that strives to prevent teen pregnancy. The Carly Rae Jepsen advertisement focuses on how teen pregnancy can change the life plans of teenage girls. The advertisement uses rhetorical appeals in order to convey The Candie’s Foundation message. The advertisement uses logos, ethos, and pathos as support for the main argument.
“Hector Garcia: We train soldiers for war. Let's train them to come home, too” Hector Garcia’s approach to the rhetorical analysis is very organized when he speaks about PTSD. He started his speech by introducing a former military soldier whom had suffered with PTSD, since he came home from war. The story is he started off with an approach to two different ideas of controlling a situation when the patient would have flashbacks of the war.
On August 4th, 2015, photographer, Cristiano Xavier captured the fine line between the calm and the storm through the lenses of a camera. This image uses visual persuasiveness in order to convince its viewers of an argument. By inspecting the elements and functions involved in the image, viewers can see how this argument is created. Then, by evaluating the image, viewers see how well-supports this argument is. The message being; there is always a calm before the storm.
A Combination of a Serious and Rhetorical Man The figure which I see straddling between the two categories is Maria W. Stewart. Over the course of her lifetime, I believe she has possesses the qualities of a Serious Man as well as a Rhetorical Man. Grew up working as indentured servant (later becoming a domestic servant) in the house of a clergyman, Stewart has developed her keen interest on Christianity. Patricia Biznell and Bruce Herzberg mention in their introduction of Maria W. Stewart that the Sabbath school has provided Stewart “a basic education in reading and writing” (1031).
Paul Abramson is a psychology professor at UCLA. There he teaches classes on Human Sexuality and Sex & The Law. He has written several books on romance, sexuality, and relationships. In his 2007 article “The Right to Romance: Why Universities Shouldn’t Prohibit Relations Between Teachers and Students” he argues for student/teacher relationships. He believes it is a restriction of rights and in his article he uses several appeals to validate his argument.
Doritos were first introduced in 1968 by Frito-Lays. From 1968 until now Doritos have used many advertisements to promote their product. Over the years, Doritos has become a successful company and is known for their different flavors chips. During 1995 and 2013, Doritos created two different Super Bowl commercials that are broken down between their target audience, historical context, media choices/composition of advertisement and rhetorical appeals. In these commercials there are three rhetorical appeals being presented: logos, ethos, and pathos.
