What would you do if you were put on an island by yourself? In the novel The Lord of The Flies, a plane crash lands on an island full of elementary school boys no older than 12. The boys, understandably enough, were extremely inexperienced in the wild and didn’t have a clear path to safety. The problems the boys had created themselves, not the environment around them, could've been fixed. Three crucial errors that the boys made on the island were their fights over leadership, lack of communication, and failure to work as a team. One of the crucial errors the boys made on the island was that the boys fought over leadership. Communication is big anywhere in life and unfortunately the boys had struggled with this. One has to be open minded to have good communication skills and some of the boys lacked this trait, especially Jack. Jacks ignoring of piggy started to rub off on all the other boys which hurt the boys unity. On page 32 the author states,” I got the conch, said Piggy. You let me speak! The conch doesn’t count on top of the mountain, said Jack, so you shut up!” The choir boys who are friends with Jack see this happen throughout the story where Jack is constantly mistreating and not listening to what Piggy has to say, even when it is extremely useful. The boys then start to have the same mannerisms as Jack and treat Piggy the way Jack does. Jack and the choir boys struggled with being able to listen and accept change which is never good when trying to communicate with one another. This slowly separates the group and other boys have hatred for one another. In the beginning of the story we see some tension, but not hatred, between Jack and Ralph. But then over time the Choir boys have some hatred toward Piggy. This is another big reason why the boys did not have a better life on the
