In The Outsiders many kids didn’t have parents or have parents that are involved in their lives causing them to be reckless without anyone telling them to stop. Many teens in The Outsiders are doing whatever they want and aren't thinking of their health and others. Also they get into gang fights without thinking of the outcome. Lacking parental guidance causes the characters in The Outsiders to not care about their well-being. First of all the characters aren’t taking their breakfast as serious as they should. “ All three of us like chocolate cake for breakfast,” (pg.104-105). For breakfast you should be eating something healthy to get you ready for the day not cake. Since they don’t have parents to tell them that they shouldn’t eat chocolate cake for breakfast, it’ll become a habit that could affect their future. …show more content…

“Two Bit left me sitting on the bench at the bus stop while he went to the gas station to buy some cigarettes”( pg.134). The gangs might not know how bad it is to smoke and since they don’t have a responsible adult no one can help them get rid of the addiction. “Anyone want a weed,”(pg.30) The characters aren’t thinking of themselves or others since they share weed with each other. Since their smoking and not considering what bad consequences come with it they’re not thinking of their health or well-being. As well as smoking people in The Outsiders equally drink alcohol. “ In our neighborhood it’s rare to find a kid who doesn’t drink once in awhile,” (pg.8) With unavailable or couldn’t care less parents many of the greasers and socs think it’s fine drinking alcohol. Plus a whole neighborhood of kids who drink maybe be caused by how much their parents treat them poorly or how much they care. Maybe if their parents cared they would be making better
