Over the last few months, we have been working on different monologues of our choice to perform for an assessment. Initially, I chose one from A Comedy of Errors however due to being familiar with it I decided instead to perform one of Lady Macbeth's from Act 1, Scene 5 of Macbeth. I chose this monologue because I felt it would be enjoyable to play a character who is so strong yet weak at the same time. I also really appreciate the dramatic irony of the monologue because she is asking for spirits to help her be evil and to remove her feelings of remorse, however, she already clearly is very evil and if she truly had remorse she wouldn't be okay trying to have Duncan killed anyway. This theme is expressed through the contrast between Duncan and Macbeth. Macbeth is referred to as a tyrant by most of the subjects by the end of his reign. He commits terror on his people and those around him due to his paranoia. Duncan was referred to only as ‘king’ and treated his people well and rewarded those around him, like when he made Macbeth the Thane of Cawdor.
In the beginning of the book Macbeth. Macbeth is selfless, and truly devoted to benefiting the people. Macbeth saves the country, and the king admires him. Duncan states “ No more that thane of Cawdor shall deceive our bosom interest, go pronounce his present death, and with his former title greet Macbeth” This suggests that Duncan admires the great deeds of Macbeth.
Macbeth clearly distinguished himself as a great warrior, but his battlefield heroics did not carry over into heroic behavior off the battlefield. It is ironic that he, who had defended Duncan from traitors colluding with Irish and Norwegian armies, himself harbored traitorous thoughts. Lastly, a good king is Duncan. Duncan is a king who is loyal and and genres. Another reason Duncan is a good kind is, he has experience on being a king. None of the other kings have experience. One example on how he was loyal, is how he had given Lady Macbeth a gift for being the lady of the place.
Today after the crowning at scone the strangest thing happened to me. I was taking a walk through the woods to clear my head when three old women appeared. In this play, Macbeth’s downfall can be considered to be the loss of his moral integrity and this is achieved by ambition, despite this, Lady Macbeth and the witches work through his ambition, furthering to assist his inevitable ruin. Ambition alone is the most significant factor that led to Macbeth’s downfall. The witches are only able to influence his actions through Macbeth’s pre-existing and the three witches see that Macbeth has ambition and uses it to control his action. Ambition alone is displayed throughout the play to be the most significant cause for Macbeth’s downfall.
King Duncan is a relatively minor character in the play Macbeth written by William Shakespeare. He was the king of Scotland, the father of Malcolm and Donalbain, and the victim of his close friend Macbeth. He was known to be too kind, credulous and weak which lead to his early death in the play. King Duncan is a benevolent character: “You are welcome here.
