Before entering the Laika exhibit, the first thing you will notice is the large, firey-colored skeleton from one of Laika’s best movies “Kubo and the Two Strings”. Towering over you by more than ten feet, this huge sculpture welcomes you into the exhibit. Behind the sculpture is a complimentary, dark-mossy green color background that looks similar to underground caves, radiating a chilling atmosphere. As you walk to the right, you enter the official Laika exhibit. The dark room creates a contrast with the displays, creating a movie-feel ambiance. Even when you enter, you notice the array of colors luminating through every part of the room. Not many animated movies have the same style as Laika’s and this gives them their well known recognition. As I said before, everything you made for the movie; the set, the characters, the clothes, you name it, were all handcrafted. The theme is dark, because if you have seen the movies, most of them give off an eery feel. Since all of the movies that Laika created were stopmotion films, everything had to be percise and lots of parts had to play in order to have movements and etc. This means, making different types of faces and more. When I walked around the room, I noticed how each art was displayed and why they were located in these specific locations. For example, two sides of the room had four glass cases, holding individual character figures. I noticed that on one side, all of the figures were the main characters and the other side were supporting roles. I found similarities with all of the characters (all from each movie) and you can definitely see similar features. Laika’s art is truly magnificent; especially how everything is handcrafted and how talented each person is to make all of these parts to make this movie come
