One should never do anything that one cannot talk about after dinner” (“Oscar Wilde”). The “Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allen Poe is a short horror story. “Tell-Tale Heart” is about a young man who stays with an old man that had been nice to him, but something was wrong with the old man: his eye. The old man’s eyes made the young man feel really uncomfortable and go insane. The young man kills the old man and tries to get away with it, but he feels so guilty he confesses. Maloney loves Mr. Maloney for many reasons and really likes being next to Mr. Maloney. As a result of “Tell-Tale Heart” and “Lamb to the Slaughter”, they both involve someone loving another. Second, “Tell-Tale Heart” and “Lamb to the Slaughter” are similar because in both stories, the murderer is insane. In “Tell-Tale Heart”, when the young man was planning his murder, he watched the old man sleeping. “So you see he would have been a very profound old man, indeed, to suspect that every night, just at twelve, I looked in upon him while he slept” (Poe 4). The young man stalked and watched the old man sleep for 8 nights (Poe 4). In “Lamb to the Slaughter”, Mrs. Maloney was amused to have gotten away with the murder. “Personally, I think it’s right here on the premises. Probably right under our very nose. What do you think, Jack? And in the other room, Mary Maloney began to giggle” (Dahl 6). Mrs. Maloney was happy to have outsmarted the police and killed Mr. Maloney. Therefore, both the young man and Mrs. Maloney were in an insane state.
