The websites of Lane Bryant and Catherines Plus Sizes were viewed, in an effort to find similarities and differences in their advertising strategies. Interestingly, both websites have similar products and clothing, but with a different style and targeted market. Lane Bryant’s website was so eye catching, uplifting, and inspiring with plus size women who confidently wore pretty fashions and a radiant smile. Creatively, the marketers used catchy slogans throughout the website that were used to boost the self-esteem, confidence, and self-consciousness of their targeted market. The slogans ranged from, “Be that Girl”, “Live it, Shop it, Share it”, and “Develop an attitude that is inspired by “#This Body” (Lane Bryant). Also, the marketers used inspiring words that include rule breakers and trailblazers. Interestingly, the only slogan viewed was “We Fit You Beautifully” (Catherines Plus Sizes). In my opinion, this slogan was geared towards the fit of clothing that the company offered, instead of focusing on the confidence of plus size women. Also, the models appeared to be older and conservative with their appearance and style of clothing. As a result, the advertising methods will appeal to the older, plus size consumers, which will limit sales and competitive advantage for the company. Overall, the two websites relay different messages. Lane Bryant’s strategic advertising and appealing website speaks confidence, beauty, and style in various sizes, to all plus size women. Catherines Plus Sizes’ advertising methods and website do not focus on the mindset and self-esteem of their targeted market.
