Plato believed that most people were “in the dark” and that everyone needs someone of a superior status to look up to. I do believe that most people could be considered “in the dark”. However, I do not believe that each of us needs someone of superior standard to guide us through life, I believe that everyone has one person that they look to automatically. I do not believe with Plato’s idea that we can ever achieve a superior status. “In the dark” is a symbol of being oblivious to the world around you. In this day in age many people focus more on their own life rather than making connections outside of the home. Many people even at dinner dates will be on their phones rather than talking with one another. This essentially is not the only way to be “in the dark”. In some ways “in the dark” could mean not being able to see things from a different point of view. For instance, someone who believes that their way and their opinion is always right. They do not ever take into consideration anyone else’s opinion when in reality the other person’s thoughts may be the better one. In a way each and every one of us already has someone of a superior status that we look up to. By superior I mean that we all have someone, which is incredibly good at something, that we look up to. Life was made for us to wander in many directions. Sometimes we may take a detour but eventually we find our way back; no one can live our life for us. Would we not be living the lives that the superior person wants seeing how they are the ones guiding us? These people can make us better by pushing ourselves to be better but other than that, it is our life. Furthermore, someone that is guiding us through life cannot change our perception of the world. It is very difficult for someone to change their views, even with a superior person guiding
