Langston Hughes Legacy

To start off, Langston Hughes was an important leader & left a legacy because He was a primary contributor to the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920’s, also his poems “Dreams” & “Let America be America, were some of his strongest pieces because of the writing & the message that the poems gave were outstanding, & Langston also was a famous Author that was getting known more & more over time. Additionally, Langston Hughes wrote sixteen books of poems, two novels, three collections of short stories, four volumes of "editorial" and the poems, stories, novels & more weren’t just poems & things that he wrote, they had a meaning to them & were based off his opinion, what he felt what was right, & most importantly how he felt. In his early teens he went to live with his mother, and they moved to several cities before eventually settling in Cleveland, Ohio. It was during this time that Hughes first began to write poetry, and that one of his teachers first introduced him to the poetry of Carl Sandburg and Walt Whitman, both whom Langston later cited as primary influences. Hughes was also a regular contributor to his school's literary magazine, and frequently submitted to other poetry magazines, although they would ultimately reject him.
