Very few, if any, immigrants have the chance to learn English before traveling to the U.S. Because of this barrier, it is nearly impossible for organizations such as the Border Patrol to warn, aid, and communicate with them as they travel to the U.S. Although there are helpful signs along the border, they are written in English and are therefore indecipherable. Furthermore, the language border hinders an immigrant’s ability to survive in American society once they arrive. English is the written and spoken language in almost every city, thwarting immigrants’ opportunity to find jobs and interact with others. As they struggle to communicate, they become ostracized and do not fit in.
Response to “Our Fear of Immigrants” In “Our Fear of Immigrants” Jeremy Adam Smith takes a neutral stance on the immigration and anti-immigration argument. Smith begins by telling the story of a 4th grade class at Jefferson Elementary School in Berkeley, California who try to fight back against immigration laws after a classmate of theirs was deported back to his home country. Smith then goes on to compare the 4th graders to the adults of their town who fight for stronger immigration laws asking his readers what qualities the children possess that the rest of the citizens do not to make them react so differently.
The best ways for immigrants to adjust to living in the United States are quickly learning the English language, maintaining cultural ties, and recognizing that schools have both a social and academic focuses. When immigrants can speak properly, then they will have more job opportunities. In My Favorite chaperone Maya’s parents are a taxi driver and a house cleaner. Because they cannot speak english Maya has to translate for her parents. They are not able to get higher paying jobs because of their lack of comprehension and ability to speak.
One challenge I think is very big for Mexican immigrants or any immigrant in general is learning a new language. Having to learn the language can take a very long time to be able to do this can affect their lives in many ways, for example; not knowing English or any other language, but their own can affect many things such as their education, getting a job, or even trying to fix family relationships. Many immigrant parents force their children to learn the new language of the country they migrated to which may give them a life a bit easier. Education is another challenge Mexican immigrants face while living in the US. When they first start out they have very low levels and even low Socioeconomic status (SES).
According to Benson (2015), first government that studied to follow the new wave of humanitarian ¬migrants demonstrates that more than 90% of surveyed refugees had failed to find a job. Benson (2015) demonstrates this cause of a barrier is the fail to write or speak English. The social difficulties the refugee’s faces are enormous as stated by (Benson, 2015). As his studies show that almost half they reported had never had a job in their lives, and 15% was hard for them to attend school in their country.
Should students go to a community college? Many people ask that question, such as parents. Many students just want a job and not to stay at school for four years, or they don't have a lot money to go to college. And there are people who are just the opposite. Whoever it is, community college is an option for some student.

For many new immigrants coming to America, it is difficult to adjust into the new society. Many come to America without the basic knowledge of English, the new immigrants do not have the ability assimilate to American society because of the lack of possible communication between the immigrant and an native. Non-English speaking immigrants that come to America face harsh challenges when trying to assimilate to U.S. society because immigrants are often segregated into ethnic communities away from natives, Americans do not know basics of words of other well known languages, and the lack of government funding education programs. In “Mother Tongue,” Amy Tan uses anecdotes to discuss how language is capable of affecting someone’s life throughout time. As a child I would always see my parents work hard for every dollar they made. When I reached my teenage years I realized that it was because they were immigrants to this country and took whatever job opportunity they could find. I also came to realize that I was an immigrant, and that life was tougher for not having the proper documentation. This year I fell into the biggest hole of my life. Nevertheless, communication and language barriers have been recognized as the indubitable underlying causes of the gap in health knowledge among the deaf community (Kuenburg et al., 2016).
If there is anything that makes me sad, it is the concept of homelessness. Everyday I see a homeless person, all different races and ages. It brings the question to mind of, how do they get there? What has to occur in order for a person to lose it all and end up on the streets? As it so happens to be, there are various factors that can result in leaving a person homeless.
Migrant workers- Migrant workers tend to experience language and cultural barriers which can cause many risks. They can have issues with understanding the OSH rules which can cause them danger. Cultural barriers are like poor awareness of the labour market; they may not be aware of their rights and find themselves in low-skilled job proving to be more hazardous to their health. Migrant workers are very often employed under temporary contracts, and are exposed to the risks related to these employment forms, such as less access to OSH trainings. Undocumented migrants are predominantly at risk, although, because of their situation, consistent data may be unavailable.
There are many challenges that immigrants face throughout their lives. Many immigrants are able to come to the U.S., but it is not easy as it seems. One challenge that immigrants go through is being able to have respect that the U.S. citizens have. Another challenge that immigrants face is being able to adapt to the new environment. People who arrive in the U.S. might not be able to speak English.
