In the movie Radio, the main character James Robert aka Radio has a language disorder that makes it difficult for him to communicate with other around him. In the beginning of the movie he suffers the torment and ridicule individuals with communication and language disorders are subjected to. When one of the football players , Johnny , asks Radio to return a ball that has landed near him , he calls him “Dummy” and shows impatience that people without the disorders tend to show when dealing with those who do. As the movie progresses, Radio’s language begins to progress as well, and it is marked by each major development in the movie. Radio even goes to school after that point and branches out to helping with other athletic teams, such as the basketball team, giving morning announcements, becoming hall monitor, giving presents to people on Christmas, and his character becomes better understood by the other people around him, and again these developments mark the progression of the character. Radio’s character becomes a major pillar within the community and he speaks with more confidence and excitement as his role becomes more important.
