When you don't know something, people often say, "look it up," or "Google it". Credited with the launch of the site are two former Stanford University Ph.D. students Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Together they pioneered a site that would change the face of technology. Decades after founding Google, Page is Alphabet's (Google's parent company) CEO, and is his net worth around $53.7 billion dollars. How has such a man become one of the most acclaimed people in the world? And what did he do to get to where he is today? Larry Page is the co-founder of the search engine Google and present CEO of Alphabet, which owns companies such as Nest, Google, and Calico (Forbes). As a search engine, Google organizes information by deciding which link would be most relevant to the search. In the words of Miriam Rivera, "Google enabled free searches of words or terms, making all manner of information instantly retrievable even if you did not know where it was housed." (Rivera). So, anyone could access any stored information, at any time. In addition, "Google started indexing information that was previously offline, such as far-flung archives (imagine a very old text in a tower in Salamanca) to make that knowledge searchable." (Rivera). This means that Google had organized information that had once been inaccessible to most, could be retrieved quickly without traveling to a far-off country no one's ever heard of.
