“Racial profiling punishes innocent individuals for the past actions of those who look and sound like them…” Civil Rights activist, Benjamin Jealous’ words are very relevant to the case of Trayvon Martin. Trayvon Martin was murdered at age seventeen by George Zimmerman. Zimmerman was a neighborhood watch patrol in his neighborhood, where Martin also lived. Zimmerman called 911 to report Martin as a “real suspicious guy” “a black male” walking around the neighborhood. Martin wore a hoodie on his way home from 7-Eleven with intentions of going home, but Zimmerman continued to follow Martin.
A brief overview on the Virginia-Tech Massacre reading is that it is an approach/explanation towards a male, Seung-Hui Cho, for his killing of 32 professors and fellow students, injuring another 25, and then finally killing himself at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. This reading explains four different yet similar incidents that might’ve lead to Cho becoming murderous and wanting to kill others. In addition, the reading also provides a short introduction on Cho’s personality and how peers around him contributed their own negative thoughts to his personality which led Cho to think that killing is the solution to things. An incident that could’ve pushed Cho to the killing of professors and students would be his professors’
The website I chose for this assignment is http://www.legendsofamerica.com/na-ghostdance.html. I chose this website because it looked like it had a lot of information about my topic and there were pictures on the side to help me. It also was last reviewed not too long ago so that shows that the information should be reliable and trustworthy. He establishes that he believes evil is responsible for the victims deaths. He suggests that God and justice will make this right to the families of every victim, and that their lives/deaths mean something. Clinton has various uses of repetition in his speech. “That’s God’s work.” The repetition of God emphasizes that there is an “almighty being” that is there with the victims, the families, and everyone in the nation; and He is standing next to them, side by side.
I drove out to Death Valley National Park. It was declared a national park on February of 1933. Death Valley is a very hot and arid place at this time of year. The park is part of eastern California and Nevada. The northwest of the Mojave Desert is protected by it.
The congregation of the People’s Temple, devoted to Jim Jones, were led to death on November 18, 1978. Nearly 915 people died and only a few made it out alive. The motive behind this act of unfortunate violence is still unknown. Many believe it was in the hands of Jim Jones himself and others are suspicious there was a cover up.
The 18th of November 1978 witnessed a horrible tragedy in the form of the well documented Jonestown massacre, where more than 900 people committed suicide after being directed to do so by their cult leader, Jim Jones. Jones led a cult called the People’s Temple which operated from Jonestown, Guyana. The followers of this cult had different reasons for joining it, but the standout common bond that they all shared was an acceptance to be led by Jim Jones, for whom they demonstrated both love and fear. Jim Jones claimed to be a ‘messiah clad in polyester suits’ capable of playing God while wearing peculiar dark glasses. Jones’ dressing demeanor led to his ardent followers into believing that indeed, he was omniscient, and they labelled him ‘Father’.
Rodney King Riots Protest Movement Paper On April 29, 1992, A week of non stop urban violence and mayhem erupted in the streets and cities of Los Angeles, the riots were commenced by the unjust trial that let the four white police officers set free of any charges. All four officers were captured on videotape beating on a black motorist named, Rodney King after a traffic stop gone wild. The Rodney King riots impacted society greatly by presenting the nations people with an understanding of how racism was still present in america. A reminder that "justice for all" was still a long way off being set in stone and to followed by most people.
Firstly, he wanted to distinguish why the nation is being addressed after this specific shooting. He did this through identifying the shooter and what he had done, and using it repeatedly throughout the speech. The shooter was used by the rhetor to give the audience a figure to put the responsibility on for this massacre. This is used to give the audience a form of closure that they know who was person to the cause to this event. After addressing the shooter, the next key term, an act of terrorism on the nation follows.
A mass fatality is more bodies that can be handled by the local authorities. There is no minimum number to be considered a mass casualty because some communities are more populated than others. Mass fatalities can derive from natural disaster, traffic accident, a plane crash, and mass shootings. A catastrophic mass fatality is likely to trigger disaster declarations at the state and federal level, and a national disaster declaration will mobilize an array of resources to support state and local response and recovery efforts. Mass fatality disasters are remembered by the responders, the community, the state and the nation.
