The use of many different, even contradictory elements of design is the hallmark of postmodern architecture (Sayre, H. Pearson pg. 215). The clearest and most seminal statement of the postmodern aesthetic was that of architect Robert Venturi (1925-), whose 1966 “Gentle Manifesto” described criteria for a new eclectic approach to architecture that abandoned the clean and simple geometries of the International Style (Sayre, H.
