late cold war period (1961-1989) could be characterized as a period of turmoil, social unrest, and global collaboration. These attitudes were occurring because of the cold war and post-world war 2 and rise to democratic interest. However, the late cold war period included a period of tension from the effects of communism, repressive democracy, and populist/ militarized dictatorship. The rise of communism also created a shift to include democratic ideas in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Europe. Overall, the late cold war was a period of political unrest.

During the 1960s there was a consisted growing of unrest and instability in the Africa, due to cultural, national, and religious movements. For example, Ethiopia stoned white, fashion models since they felt that the garments they used was to be worn by Africans. Thereafter, violence erupted throughout Africa, especially South Africa. This continued through the 1970s-1980s, which did not grow a prospect of peaceful change, but pushed it futther back. People like Nelson Mandela tried to protest for democracy for fair treatment amongst Africans. The effects of the cold war affected places like France in 1969. The movement was a protesting that rejected the politics of Stalinism. The French May of 1968 was considered the one of the largest protests, with a majority student involved. However, the students, allied with workers in peaceful act that later turned violent with police forces beating activist. Then as the years passed Poland was experiencing liberation from the Soviet Union. In the 1980s the Soviet Union decided to compromise, for Poland committed many strikes in July and august.
