The quote "Character is what you are in the dark." by Dwight Lyman Moody interprets that someone's is their true selves when nobody is around and that your true nature is on the inside. This quotation is true because many people hide and keep secrets to hide who they actually are. In the short story "Lather and Nothing Else," by Hernando Tellez, the barber helps the enemy, the barber avoids revealing his true feelings to his enemy, and he pretends to be calm to kill his enemy. The barber helps his enemy by shaving his hair. While the barber is shaving for the captain, the barber has thoughts of murdering the captain. But, he hesitates thinking about this. The barber doesn't tell the captain that he doesn't agree with his leadership. Instead, he has thoughts of killing him for it. The barber stays worrying and being unsure about what to do. The barber's keeps to himself and is an over-thinker. The barber pretends to be calm while thinking about killing the captain. Even though the barber was very hesitant and conscious about killing the captain but, he still was pretending to be calm by having conversations with him. It proves this in the text "Lather and Nothing Else," by saying, "Will it be like the other day?” I asked, stiff with horror" (Tellez, pg.2). This states that the barber was replying to the captain pretending to be calm, but was actually feeling nervous and scared on the inside.
