Lauren Singer is a graduate of New York University and since 2012 has only produced enough trash to fit into a single mason jar. She simply describes it as when a person doesn’t make any trash; no dumping in landfills or putting anything into garbage cans. After completing her Environmental Studies capstone, Lauren identifies the moment she came to the conclusion that her values for the planet weren’t being implemented in her day-to-day life and she then made the decision to go zero waste. Lauren had provided a fact on how much trash is thrown away by a person each day and compared that to someone throwing away eight and a half of your friends. “I’m just an average, lazy person, and I wouldn’t live this lifestyle if it was difficult. The benefits far outweigh any of the negatives that you can imagine.” She then went on to discuss what benefits you would receive from being zero waste, then ended with steps how to become zero waste, and what you can enjoy in the process. One case was making your own products, how the consumer would be aware of the exact ingredients in the product, how it can save you money, and before she made her own toothpaste her boyfriend used baking soda and how she found that to be disgusting, but then found herself using baking soda as one of her main ingredients when creating her
