Date of interview: 6/17/2024 Time of Exam: 11:20 AM Patient Name: Laurie Adams Date of Birth: 02/10/1986 Bio-Psychosocial Assessment Presenting Problems/History: Ms. Laurie is a 38-year-old female who was born and raised in Florida Palm Bay with an adult criminal awaiting prosecution charged with homicide for shooting and killing the father of her son during a verbal altercation. She was seen face-to-face at the Seminole County Jail by FSW Noel and Attorney Maxwell. Ms. Laurie described feeling helpless and hopeless because of being incarcerated, which restricted her freedom and movement. Ms. Laurie reported having a history of depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Especially her mother, she was not mentally stable, she believed. She did not take them to doctors if they were sick. She will tell them to tough it up. Laurie reported taking special classes at school and was classified as needing special education. She also mentioned she struggled a lot in school. She does not have a good relationship with her sisters, brothers, and mother and is working to support herself financially. In addition, previously, when Laurie was young, she gave birth to a son. She voluntarily gave the son for adoption to a family and prefers for us to contact them so that they can have this son also. She said giving the son up for adoption, was the best decision she had ever made because her son is doing well and has a better life. Past leisure activities: Laurie likes to go out and spend time with her son. Barriers to Treatment: Emotional or psychological problems are a barrier to treatment success: Incarceration, emotional problems, profound grief (the loss of her kid to DCF, father of her son deceased), abandonment, and insecure attachment because of unhealthy relationships with caregivers for normal social and emotional development (father, mother, brothers, and …show more content…

Insight into problems appears to be good. The judgment appears fair and fair. The client has poor eye contact and poor concentration during the examination. Instructions/Recommendations/Plan: Individual counseling/trauma and cognitive behavioral therapy are recommended because Laurie's history of depression, anxiety, psychosis, mood swings, stress, and low self-esteem cause problems with trust, friendships, and vulnerability to relationships. Also, she showed signs of insecure attachment and abandonment issues, which can lead to problems forming improper emotional relationships with others (partner), difficulties with setting boundaries, struggle to trust others or express a great deal of anxiety, and constant need for reassurance. Crisis Focus therapy: The benefits of individual counseling were explained to Laurie, and she noted that she is willing to participate in counseling.
