Attending law school full time, I want to immerse myself in a culture and environment that motivates me and holds me accountable to a higher standard of success as a law student and as a person. Although UCI Law has been around for less than a decade, it has built a reputation comparable to those that have been around for years and this is inspirational all on its own. This proves UCI Law’s commitment to preparing professionals for the legal field. Still, it is UCI Law’s commitment to public service by providing legal aid to the local community that hits close to my heart. My undergraduate studies exposed me to service learning which taught me the importance of engaging and thinking critically about importance societal issues. As a result, I know that I have the potential to be a pioneer of a more humane and just world. Looking back, seeing a brand new car bothered me more than the casual drug deals, sounds of gunfire, police helicopter searchlights, or sirens of police or ambulances. These are not uncommon occurrences in the ghettos of the world, and I was exposed to it all. Living in the midst of this impoverished environment made me a very open minded individual. My Latinx background and extensive experience - professional and personal - with multicultural communities will make a unique contribution to law school. Considering the importance of diversity of thought and perspective in the study of law, my voice is an added asset as a representation of those whose voices have been silenced; and also brings forth the experiences of those who may not have a platform from which to do
