There is not a known reason as to why serial killers do what they do. In a society of functioning people why are there individuals who go out and kill others almost as a hobby? The Tool Box killers are arguably the most gruesome killers that have ever been documented. Lawrence Bittaker and Roy Norris tortured, raped and killed girls for fun. They enjoyed hearing them scream for help and having any sort of power over the girls. The toolbox killers had many victims followed by severe acts that makes them the most profound killers in the 1970’s.

The two had went to the store and bought tape, pliers, rope, an ice picks and everything else they thought they could use to inflict pain. They also decided to purchase a camera and tape recorder to video their victims for their own pleasure. The next task was to purchase a vehicle. Bittaker selected a 1977 GMC cargo van, that they later named the “murder mac”. The final task before fulfilling their fantasy was to find a quiet spot where they could torture their victims without being caught or the victims being heard. The location they selected was in the mountains just above Glendora. On June 24, the Tool Box killers strike. Their first victim was Lucinda “Cindy” Schaefer, a 17 year old on her way back from bible study. They offered her a ride but she declined, they didn’t take no for an answer. Norris then forced her into the van where he proceeded to gag her and tie her up. Bittaker proceeded back to their hideaway. Both of them raped her and decided how she should die. Norris agreed to kill her himself by strangulation but, she proceeded to cry which made him stop.
