Four years ago I used to be that shy, quiet kid at school who was afraid to talk to other people. Then one day I woke up and decided that I am not going to live like this and wanted to interact with other people. Ever since that day, I talk to a lot of people and I am involved in many different activities. It ended up being the greatest decision I have ever made and it has allowed me to discover different passions and want to be a leader.
Then in 2015, I decided to apply for the Leadership Opportunities for Teens (LOFT) conference to learn more leadership qualities and I ended up being chosen by AG Bell to attend the conference and speak about my life experiences. A year after the conference, my friend was a victim of bullying. When he was being picked on by a bully, I could not stand to watch it happen, so I stepped in and stopped the bullying and told the assistant principal what was going on. Ever since that incident, the bully has stopped bullying my friend and other people who were also being harassed. I took pride in that I helped my friend and prevented more people from getting bullied.
Ever since the incident I feel more confident in myself and take pride in helping other people. Whether it’s helping them understand a math problem or putting a smile on their face when they are having a bad day. I feel passionate about making other people happy and it has given me an outlet to take some stress off of me when it comes to school and other life problems that we all have.
Throughout this whole process the last four years I have found what makes me happy and that is helping other people. When I help other people I feel accomplished and ready to do more. Which is why in college I am going to be involved in many more clubs and activities to continue building confidence in myself while gaining more knowledge about leadership. Going to the Leadership Opportunities for Teens conference has been a life-changing experience for me.
