The leadership quality that both Odysseus and Ulysses portrays is concern. Concern means to worry about others when they’re in the need of help, no matter if it’s mentally or physically. Odysseus in the “Odyssey” portrays this in Homer’s Epic Poem; “The Lotus Eaters” on page 1112 and on line 44 - 49. On page 1112, Odysseus men ate the lotus flower and became bewitched to forget their homeland. As it states on line 44 - 49, “ But those who ate the honeyed plant, the Lotus never cared to report, nor return: they longed to stay forever, browsing on that native bloom, forgetful of their homeland. He tied them up to prevent them from eating more and becoming more bewitched. In the poem, “ Ulysses and the Siren”, Ulysses is alone at sea to care for himself when a siren comes up and ask Ulysses to go to his death bed. It is mentioned on line 1 - 16, “ Siren. Come, worthy Greek, Ulysses, come, possess these shores with me; The winds and seas are troublesome, and here we may be free. Here may we sit and view their toil and joy the day in mirth the while, and spend the night in sleep.” This shows the siren speaking to Ulysses about joining it to the sea, where he can rest while giving the siren amusement. This gives the idea, that the siren is convincing Ulysses to go down the see where he will drown. But Ulysses responded with, “ Fair nymph, if fame or honor were to be attained with ease, then would I come and rest me there,and leave such toils as these. But here it dwells, and here must I with danger seek it forth; to spend the time luxuriously becomes not men of wealth.” This shows that Ulysses is argueing or convincing the siren to leave him alone, because he does not want to
