Leadership is a very important thing. There are good leaders, and there are bad leaders. In the Novel Lord of the Flies you see different examples of leadership. The many different values of good leadership from the novel can also be shown in everyday life. There are plenty of great leaders that have formed this country and keep it the way it is.
Leaders are supposed to be the people that you trust the most, you should feel comfortable following them. Leaders need to be supportive and care for their followers but still have a sense of authority. They are reasonable and always look out for the best of their followers. Leaders have to have a perfect balance of friendship and authority, and also a perfect balance of taking suggestions from their followers and their own decision making. Jack and Ralph both have their own strengths and weaknesses in leadership as all leaders do. Ralph has a very sound mind and is a very reasonable leaders. He makes his decisions with the best in mind for the rest of the group. Ralph wants the rest of the group to have a voice in the group and have their own opinions, that’s why he set up the system that whoever has the conch may speak. Jack’s leadership is harsher, and he thinks less of the future and less for the other boys than Ralph. Jack took charge of the boys he found on the island, but he wasn’t caring and was forceful and made the young boys march at attention. Jack has a far less sound mind than Ralph, the ways of the island get to Jack and the island changes him. His strong desire for hunting comes before anything else even though it is not the most important thing to the boys’ survival. When he goes hunting he changes, he seems to become less human, this scares the younger boys and at times is worse for the rest of the group. His behavior is not what the group needs, this makes Ralph the better
