When speaking to someone there is an expectation for the audience to feel, know, or do something. When the information is presented unclearly, misinterpreted, or facts are not clear, conflicts, misunderstandings, and arguments arise. In the workplace for example, communication is instrumental for a business to be successful. In a business setting there will come a time for presenting group discussions in the form of a formal presentation. Presentations allow individuals to define their purpose to an audience, as well as, reinforce said purpose through pictures, charts and graphs, commercials, pamphlets, meetings, and seminars. When preparing for a presentation, one should focus on the purpose of presenting by asking themselves if they want to inform, persuade, entertain, or inspire their audience. Once identified, the presentation can be built accordingly. These presentations may be in the form of business meetings, group presentations, or staff meetings. Centralized authority functions when top managers make the important decisions. This process is efficient but the process is slower. Today, more businesses are moving towards decentralized authority so problems can be solved quicker. Within a decentralized authority more people are involved in making decisions which promotes greater employee commitment (Bethel, 2011). Organizational communication affects behavior, human relations, and performance. Organizational communication helps improve human relations, performance, and is critical to meeting the goal of human relations. If the communication flow is damaged or not clear the organization will not perform at a high level, and will not stay competitive (Bethel, 2011).
