On Christmas morning what are you thinking, is it just another day, no, this is a day that has been anticipated all year, family is gathered around, meals and stories are shared. This is what camp feels like to me it is not just a place or even just a summer camp, YMCA Camp Kitchikewana is a home, a home where values are taught, skills are learned, and there is a place to rest your head, by the hour of course. I want to apply to the leadership program to top my christmas tree, and to go home for the holidays. The one month that I spent on the island is full of experiences and people I will never forget. I learned so much in one month, I would love to learn more. One month at camp change me so much, it shaped me into a better person. Last year during L1 I grew to be more confident and I learned to challenge myself. Before leaving for camp my aunt challenged me to solo portage on trip. I didn’t believe in myself, I didn’t think that I could do it, but with the help of supportive friends and guidance I mustered up the will to solo portage a canoe! My facilitators helped me learn how to include all different types of people is all activities. Through journal and everyday experiences camp has allowed me to explore nature and my personality.
