MGMT 615-9043 Leadership Style Assignment 1 Leadership is defined as a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal. (Northouse, 2013) Leadership requires influence and motive. The leader is the decision maker. They are the influence and affect how well their subordinate followers achieve their goal. The concept of what traits and characteristics makeup a leader has been reviewed over decades. There are many different ways to conceptualize what makes a good leader. This skill is important at all levels of management. It being able to view situations from a different perspective other than your own. (Northouse, 2013) An example of how that skill would be applied in real life that would be the open door policy in the military. The military runs off chain of command. Using the chain of command is very important when soldiers are having issues. Yet if you are having a problem with your leadership you can go directly to the highest ranking officer and voice your complaint. This type of setting and skill possess builds trusts and builds personal and workplace relationships. Lastly, conceptual skills is the ability to work with concepts and ideas. This skill requires vision and having the ability to place it in words. It is important that top management possess these skills. The findings from the behavior style questionnaire the female counterpart rated my leadership style as tasked ordinated. In contrast the male counterpart rated my leadership style as relationship ordinated. These findings gave me insight on how my leadership style is perceived. Therefore my hypothesis was incorrect. The opposite sex sees me as more of friendly face than a leader. They usually are very playful with me and give me a hard time. In contrast, the females tend to focus on the task we have on hand. For example, when I was appointed squad leader I was given a new task. It was to come up with a weekend report for two days in one. I was able to achieve the goal before the four o clock deadline along with other assigned task. I tend to place emphasizes on getting things done right and quickly. Therefore this questionnaire was a good indicator of my leadership
