Everywhere I go I have to comprehend text: a label on a package at the grocery store, a sign on the highway, a message on my cell phone, or a chapter in a book. Thus, reading plays a significant role in my life. Growing up I used to struggle when it comes to reading. I could not comprehend what the writer is saying in their text, so I would try to read it over and over again so that I could understand what I was reading. Therefore, my grandmother started to teach me how to read and understand what I am reading. Growing up as a child, education is a vital compromise in my family. Many people are taken advantage of if they are unable to communicate appropriately with others. Credit cards could cause major finance problems for an individual who can’t read because they won’t understand what terms they are agreeing to and might end up signing on the dotted line of a document that says “X” amount of money is to be paid along with 30% interest. Not only will this harm the individual but it will drag along to their families that will have to pay for the illiterate mistake. A person who can’t read will also have problems in a relationship due to the fact that couples nowadays tend to communicate through text if they are not in person. If a person is in disagreement with another they usually dish it out through text messages, and if the individual can’t read what the other person is saying then that will lead to more tension in the relationship.
