I discovered Michael Jackson when I was about 10 years old in the summer between 3rd and 4th grade. Ever since then I have felt connected to his work and have tried to keep his music alive. Leave Me Alone was one of the first songs that I heard off of Bad which is my favorite album by him. She is deceitful and uses him for money but keeps begging for him to take her back. “Don’t come lovin’ me, don’t come beggin’. I love you” This makes him feel conflicted as he still loves her even though she is bad to him. Other than this literal meaning of the lyrics, he also created the song to directly address all of the bad press he was getting and the terrible and strange rumors that people made up about him. If we take a look at the lyrics Jackson says, “‘Cause there’s a time when you’re right and you know you must fight who’s laughing baby”. Here he is addressing the fact that he is “right” and that all the rumors about him are not true. He also mentions how he will continue to “fight” for and stand up for himself solely because of his knowledge of himself and how bad the rumors are. Because I am not famous, I will never know or even fully understand the struggles that Michael went through. However, this doesn’t mean that I don’t have struggles and frustrations of my own. Mostly my frustrations come from school or at home because I always set high standards and expectations for myself yet sometimes I feel like I am not achieving my goals. This makes me want to be alone sometimes especially since I am a very independent person hence my connection to the title of Michael Jackson’s song. Sometimes I wish I could be perfect or all of my school work would go away but I realize that it can’t. I also get stressed very easily so the only way for me to calm down sometimes is to just be alone. To me, this song embodies what I feel
