“Many believe LeBron James is Michael Jordan's closest competitor in terms of being the greatest basketball player of all time” Mike Chiari. In a long debated topic of who is the better basketball player between Michael Jordan and Lebron James there is one simple answer, Lebron James. Michael Jordan played professional basketball from 1985 till he retired in 2003. Jordan played for the Chicago Bulls and the Washington Wizards all after he graduated from the University of North Carolina. Lebron James is currently in his 15th career as a professional basketball player and is averaging 28.9 points per game, along with 6.6 rebounds and 8.6 assists. In Michael Jordan’s 15th year in the NBA he only averaged 20 points per game, along with 5.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists. These statistics show how Lebron James has consistently been better then Michael Jordan in the late years of both of their careers. The most important part of a season is the post season, which is another characteristic the Lebron James has been successful with. “LeBron James is the only player to rank in the top 10 in points, rebounds and assists in NBA playoff history” NBA Staff. In 1996, 1997 and 1998 Michael Jordan was able to win the NBA finals championship. This is an impressive milestone in the franchises history. This fact is often brought up because this is something Lebron James has never done. Next, those people who claim Michael Jordan is undoubtedly better at basketball then Lebron James, bring up number of championships won. Michael Jordan has won 6 NBA championships while Lebron James has won 3 NBA championships. You could say that this fact alone settle the argument but to many it doesn’t. On June 11th, 1997 Michael Jordan played in a NBA game versus the Utah Jazz while suffering the flu. He managed to be the games highest scoring player and hit a game winning shot in the 4th quarter. People say that when Lebron James feels ill or slightly hurt he will sit out for a few games a year.
