Lebrun's Love In 'The Awakening'

124 Words1 Pages
Love: an intense feeling of deep affection towards someone or something. It affects people in different ways, whether is is emotionally, physically, or mentally. It may sometimes lead people to go far beyond what is necessary to keep it alive. In the novel, The Awakening, Robert Lebrun, held a position in a mercantile house where he met a married woman named Edna Pontellier. Infatuated by her, he tried to win her affections, while in the film The Great Gatsby, we see the obstacles millionaire Jay Gatsby had to go through to rekindle the old love he and, now married, Daisy Buchanan had five years before. All this shows how these men, as much as they try, can never seem to meet a woman’s expectations.
