The Lee County, jail's mission, is to safeguard lives and property; respectfully enforce the laws of the land; and, work cooperatively to lessen the impact of crime on the lives of residents and visitors in Lee County (Lee County Sheriff's Office, 2017). The mission statement reflects the importance of officers coming together with members of the community to ensure their safety and partnership. Law enforcement has a smooth transition when the community can trust them. When the officers remove criminals off the street, the correction officers are tasked with monitoring inmates and keeping a safe environment. Once the criminals are behind bars the crime in the neighborhood dies down which attracts outside individuals to improve and enhance the quality to live or visit Lee County. The officer looks for anything an inmate might have that they can turn into a weapon. During meal times the police must hand out meals to the patients while checking off the numbers to account for every patient, inmate counts occur five times a day. Throughout the day the staff member is tasked with checking the daily schedule; laundry, uniform exchange, attorney visits, inmates go to court and recreation. Lastly, walking up and down the hall monitoring the prisoners for the rest of the day. I asked officer Ross how many officers are assigned to each cell block. “Depending on the location of the officer and inmate risk there is one officer for 72 inmates or on the medical floor up to five officers per each cell block”(E.
