Why is the drinking age 21? The drinking age was not always at 21 in the United States. States had the right to choose at which age they wanted their citizens to drink legal. In the beginning of America’s history until 1919, there was no national drinking age.
MLDA 21 to 18 When the MLDA 21 act is considered to be for the greater good, that is not always the case. The law was enacted to make the life of an average teenager easier, but instead it just put more restriction on their freedom. When there is restriction in the life of a teenager, then comes rebellion against this act and that improves their likelihood of drinking alcohol. Age 18 is when teenagers start receiving their civil and mandatory responsibilities. So, since it is legal to lay your life down for your country, shouldn’t you be able to drink at the same age.

The United States has been fighting the war on alcohol since the 1920’s, and today it still remains as a highly debatable topic. Many Americans believe that keeping the drinking age at 21 is acceptable, while others believe that 18 is the year that you should be trusted to make your own life changing decisions. And did you know that there are only seven countries in the world (196 countries in the world total) who have their drinking age as high as 21, and the US is one of those seven? Once you're 18, you are not allowed to buy guns, drink alcohol, go to 21+ bars or clubs, rent a car, or even rent certain hotel rooms.
The UK is known to have an unhealthy relationship with alcohol, which can be extremely common in younger people. The debate for raising the legal drinking age to 21 is been a debate going on for years but this has not happened. I think that this should be put in place as Britain needs to control its binge drinking and this is the only possible solution for this. Firstly, raising the drinking age to 21 will undoubtedly save lives.

So my conclusion is that the legal drinking age should stay 21 because it always changes, under aged kids always find a way to obtain alcohol, and parents will often buy their children drinks. Under aged kids themselves have said that their parents, older friends, strangers and family members would buy them alcohol. Raising the alcohol age limit would barely change anything, it affects the older group of drinkers more than the younger. As far as I know the age limit is still at 21, but it may change soon, there is currently debates on whether to raise or lower the alcohol age
Today in the United States about 4,358 people under the age of 21 years old die each year from alcohol-related car crashes, homicides, suicides, alcohol poisoning, and other injuries such as falls, burns, and even drowning. More than 190,000 people under the age of 21 visited an emergency room for alcohol related reasons in 2008 alone. Alcohol related motor vehicle crashes kill someone every 31 minutes and non-fatally injure someone every two minutes. That’s a lot of people gone because they wanted to go out and party and not think about the consequences ahead.
