Topic: Legalization of Marihuana
Opening/Attention: Good afternoon everyone, it is a pleasure to be able to speak to you about the legalization of marihuana, and although I know it is a sensitive topic for some of you, I would like to tell you the reasons behind my point.
Spoken Link/Transition: Consequently, I will be providing you with the emotional part of it.
Emotion/Story: Nowadays, we live in a very stressful environment, where we are overwhelmed by deadlines and expectations of all sorts. Marihuana definitely helps relieve these symptoms that create depression and anxiety in people. Moreover, I personally know this person who suffers from depression due to the fact that he has cancer. Facts, data, expert opinion:
a) A recent Nanos survey brought that almost 70% of Canadians supports the legalization of Canada. The poll delegated by CTV news, encompassed the answers of 1,000 Canadians aged 18 and older.
b) An American study showed that Cannabis can treat epilepsy and other seizure disorders by 54%. Moreover, it also reduces depression and anxiety by 30%.
c) Survey by CNN showed that over 50% of the US population supports the legalization of Marihuana as compared to 16% back in 1990.
d) A study set by The Cato Institute showed that in states in the US where marijuana is legalized it created huge tax revenues, such as Colorado where $135 million dollars were originated from marijuana (26% of this revenue was used for the improvement of the education system), also Washington were it brought $70 million dollars and Oregon generated 14.9 million dollars having been legalized only since January of 2016.
