Legalising Euthanasia in Australia When our furry family members that we share such a loving connection with, is struck with an injury or disease that would leave them suffering for what would be the rest of their days, the first best and most considered option is euthanasia. They are such a close part of our family, that we couldn't stand to watch them deteriorate in agony, so we agree that the best option for them is to put them out of their misery, and we allow them the dignity to die without pain. Our pets are allowed the right to have their agony erased, however, why is it in Australia that our very own flesh and blood, are simply dismissed from any such decision? Angelique Flowers willed to commit suicide by voluntary euthanasia however was denied her final dying wish, purely because it was illegal. She recorded a video, that she asked Exit International to publicise after her death which occurred on August 19 2008, which unfortunately was not by the source of euthanasia. In her video she explained that she had roughly 2 months left to live. Experiencing painful surgery after painful surgery, no operation or amount of chemotherapy would save her. She was notified by her oncologist and gastroenterologist, that is most likely she will die of a complete bowel obstruction. Her symptoms of that only include; immense abdominal swelling, vomiting, pain, vomiting foetal matter, and then her bowel will burst. The whole process taking roughly 7 days. If that wasn't horrific enough, she was also informed that there were at least three other major ways she could die, and it was just a race to which one killed her first. To allow individuals to deteriorate to that extent is utterly inhumane and as a country we should be ashamed of ourselves. By legalising euthanasia, we have the power to prevent this horror from occurring over and over again, making death a much more humane and pleasant experience, completely alleviating
