This is brief commentary writing in contrasting “Trifles” drama by Susan Glaspell with film, Legally Blonde, by Robert Lucketic. In this commentary writing, the focus is to find out the answer from the understanding the drama and film and it is gathered on the question, 1) what are trifles to which the title refers? 2) What are connotations of the word trifles? 3) What are some of symbols in the play and film? In Legally Blonde movie, it can be seen when the main character has willpower to do her wants and to prove that it is possible and finally she can get what she want. In this film, a girl has high-dignity than a man, a girl can also solve a problem with psychoanalytic. However, women in Trifles drama have different ways to show it. The woman is brave to share what in their mind between other women. That is the point that show how a woman also have a power and skill like a man (beside their God’s omnipotence is under a man, because the leader is man). However, when the men around them, they hide their ideas and keep quiet and, in their mind, those evidence show that Mrs. Smith is victim from this accident because the entire life of Mrs. Smith after married with John Smith is not happy. Everything that she did is denied by her husband. It can be said that John Smith has take Mrs. Smith life. However, both of the film and the play do the same thing; while they have been put low by society, they still have power to share their ideas, opinion, perspective and possible
