Most people know Leonardo da Vinci just for his amazing works of art, while that is true, he did in fact paint some amazing paintings, he also did so much more! Leonardo da Vinci was born April 15, 1452 in Anchiana, Tuscany, which is now the small town Vinci, in Italy. He was a painter, inventor and student of all things science (internet, www.history.com/topics/leonardo-da-vinci). During his childhood Leonardo was taken care of by his grandfather, who he would follow into the fields and draw the insects that he saw. He would draw almost everything he saw, and at an early age it was visible that he had an amazing talent for art. Around the age of 14 Leonardo was apprenticed to a noted sculptor and painter, Andrea del Verrocchio. Although there may not have been that many that stood in Leonardo da Vinci’s way they definitely stopped him from completing everything that he would have if they didn’t happen. One of the challenges that stood in Leonardo’s way was when he was in Milan and working on a statue, in 1499 Milan and France went to war and the city was captured which caused Leonardo to flee. Many people do still wonder what the statue would have looked like, but sadly the bronze that was supposed to be used for the statue was instead used for canons and the model was used as target practice for the French soldiers (book, Brendan January Paolo Rui, Da Vinci Renaissance Painter, 2003). Another thing that stood in his way was his old age and health. His old age and health was a problem because when he started to slow down he wasn’t able to finish everything that he planned, leaving us to wonder, what else would have Leonardo da Vinci done if he lived
