The birthplace of the Renaissance was Italy. The term means “re-birth”. The Renaissance was an effort to imitate the lost world of ancient Greece and Rome. It took place in Italy because citizens were wealthy enough so they could afford to pay artists, sculptors, architects and others. The Renaissance, one of the most significant cultural movements in human history, spread through all of Europe and later that led to modern era we know today.
During the Renaissance there were great innovators in the all major fields like painting, sculpture, architecture. These innovators included Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Sandro Botticelli.

Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni known as Michelangelo was Italian Renaissance sculptor, architect, painter and poet. He had great talent in many fields like Leonardo da Vinci. During his lifetime Michelangelo developed nickname “Il Divino”, translated as “the divine”.
Michelangelo rarely signed his works and left behind no formal self-portraits, but he occasionally hid stylized portraits of his face in his paintings and sculptures. The most famous of these self-portraits is in The Last Judgment fresco that covers an entire wall of the Sistine Chapel. Interestingly, Michelangelo used to spend months in selecting marble blocks for his works.
