Leonardo Da Vinci and Pablo Picasso are both established artists who created masterpieces that changed the world of art and influenced many of the works we see today. Leonardo Da Vinci is well known for his paintings including “The Last Supper” and “Mona Lisa”. Not only was he an artist, but Da Vinci was also a successful architect and engineer. Pablo Picasso was a pioneer and master of many artistic movements including but not limited to cubism, surrealism, and realism. Picasso was also known for his fight for peace and his debated involvement in politics. Both artists focused on similar subject matter; commonly woman forms. The image Picasso created is a line drawing of a woman’s face with long hair wrapped in a crown of leaves and other seemingly organic material. This drawing was created using a technique where the artist barely lifts his pen while creating shapes and each part of the piece seemingly flows together. Picasso’s work here does not reflect a realistic image of a woman but rather an interpretation of how he sees this woman. The curved lines give the drawing a playful and free feeling. The expression on the woman’s face is unamused and blank but also thoughtful by the way she seems to stare off; perhaps she is even day dreaming. Also, both of these works lack any source of color as well besides grayscale. Neither of these works focus on more than just the face of the woman in detail, the main focus in both images seems to be the woman the artist choose. These women also seem to have very similar expressions on their faces; innocent and unamused but rather thoughtful. Both of these artists created beautiful renderings of their subjects, neither are unappealing in anyway. A calm, innocent vibration seems to overcome Da Vinci’s as well as Picasso’s images even though the imagery is drawn in such a contrasting
