Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15 1452 in Tuscan hill town of Vinci in the Valley of Arno River. He was born as the illegitimate son of Messer Piero Fruosino da Antonio da Vinci and a peasant woman named Caterina. His first five years of his life he lived in hamlet of Anchiano, after that his father’s household in a small town of Vinci. Leonardo was very exceptional at a young child so his father would made sure to get him a proper education in reading, writing and arithmetic, but since he was a illegitimate child he made sure leonardo was taught all this in his home. After he finishes his apprenticeship he became an assistant of Verrocchio. He then make many paints while under the work of Verrocchio, the Baptism of Christ and the Annunciation, were some of the paintings he had made during his time their. Sometime during the year 1487 Leonardo left the workshop and started up his own studio. Then in 1481 he made the altarpiece called the Adoration of the Magi for a major church. He never finished the painting, due to him becoming a court artist to the duke of Milan. His job was to be the court painter and architecture advisor. After he became interested in geometry he began to neglect his job. With this job he began to create military weaponry for the duke such as an improve catapult that would shoot farther and aim better. While working under the duke of Milan, Leonardo had made two paintings that are well known throughout the world the first one was the “Virgin of the rocks”. He would visit Venice and talk to the Senate about military projects that they want him to make. Then in Mantua he would plan to make a portrait of the Duchess of Mantua, Isabella d’Este.
