Leonardo da Vinci had a teacher which whom his work reflected on, Verrocchio. But he gradually moved away from his teacher’s style and began to develop a more expressive and atmospheric handling of composition. He wanted to be his own artist. Through many of his paintings, he began to create more and different compositions. For example, the Adoration of the Magi introduced main figures grouped in the foreground of the painting, while the background is a distant view of ruins and battle scenes. Or in The Last Supper when he grouped the twelve apostles into threes and had Christ in the center.
