In my reading, I believe that the author of Cold Sassy Tree has been successful in portraying Aunt Loma as an unsympathetic character. I feel this way because on page 100 in the last paragraph, there is an extreme example of Loma acting disrespectful and unsympathetic. “But Loma shook her off and stalked past Miss Love and Grandpa to join Uncle Camp, who has taken Campbell Junior out on the porch. She didn’t even make a polite show of wishing them well. Didn’t say goodnight, even.”

In A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens the passage that appears as a necessary part of the novel in order to understand the theme includes details that also contribute to the better understanding of the character. This passage acted as a description of Scrooge, how he presented himself, and the way people saw him. In the novel Dickens uses metaphors and alliteration to help the reader understand the Scrooge’s transformation throughout the novel. Dickens writes, “No warmth could warm, nor wintry weather chill him” when reading that, a reader thinks of Scrooge being in or around the warmest weather and still not able to warm himself, they may also picture him in the coldest weather and not freezing to death.

In Into the Beautiful North, Urrea illuminates cultural collision and its affect on character’s sense of identity through Nayeli’s naivety and her reaction towards how America truly is throughout her journey. Nayeli’s naivety really stems from her home of Tres Camarones.
"The Snow Walker " is a tale of adventure and survival. A story about how the main characters are going to survive in Northern Territories of Canada after a plane crash. Set in the 1950s, it features an arrogant white pilot, Charlie Halliday, who was bribed with walrus tusks into taking a sick Inuit girl to a big city hospital. He is an ignorant racist. At the opening scene of the movie, we can see how he scoffed at being called "Brother" by an Inuit.
By looking back on his past makes Scrooge realize why he truly hates Christmas time. It is because his lover, Belle, left him for money. This ironically parallels Scrooge’s future with love ones. He pushes others away and even holds back money from his own family. The Ghost of Christmas Present just makes Scrooge worse, by showing that his actions are slowly killing Bob Cratchit and the rest of his family.
In the play Raisin in the Sun written by Lorraine Hansberry takes place on the southside of Chicago where Walter and his family are racially profiled and show us how the survive throughout their struggles. The central struggles for the younger family in their search for the American dream is mostly poverty and being racially profiled against for their actions. Hansberry challenges the traditional gender roles and issues of dominance throughout the play when Mama gives Walter lee the rest of the money at the end of the play. He becomes all excited and was supposed to save some for himself and put the rest of the money to Beneatha 's education. Instead, he gave all that money to Willy another character in the play which later on that he stole from him.
Most people remember fondly of childhood, as childhood is an innocent and carefree time. Yet childhood may be a lonely memory for others, as not everyone had the fortune of a loving household. Sedaris does not directly say it, but through his words, one can infer that he grew up in a detached family. He describes the behavior of his mother, and it is obvious that there is something more than what is shown.
