From Socrates to Martin Luther King Jr. they both have served as a father figure to society from their philosophical movements to the impact they have had to the ways we live life today. The two pieces, Kings Letter from Birmingham Jail written by Martin Luther King Jr. and The Apology by Plato both play a dramatic role in society and the message they portray to the people. They both have some similarities within each other’s stories, but differences in ideologies. Throughout his life, it was not a matter of timing, but a matter of being just. King explains to his readers that the reason why he is in jail is due to the philosophy the south has of, “outsiders coming in” (King, 1963). Also, his ties he has with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, where he was invited to the south to engage in a non-violent direct action program. King was compelled to spread the word of freedom to the Negro society just as Paul was carrying the Gospel out of Taursus to spread the word of God (King, 1963).
