alley Forge, was not a battle but was a pivotal time in the Revolutionary War. It showed who would really die for freedom and who would not, because some men left without permission from General George Washington . This event happened in December 19, 1777 through June 19, 1778, 22 miles away from philadelphia. This was the hardest winter for the Continental Army, which resulted in total death count hundreds men. These men either left the Continental Army or died of diseases or starvation. They were forced to go, their lead by General George Washington ,because the Continental Army had lost their two last battles at Brandywine and Germantown. Marquis De Lafayette, did a lot of things for the colonies like he wrote a letter to congress at Valley Forge saying that George Washington should not be relieved of his duties because many people thought he should be. Also he was a French nobleman, he rushed to join the war and the Revolution.Friedrich Von Steuben was former army officer in Prussia, drilled the patriots troops. When he told this message to the Continental Army it rose all their spirits and made them want to go fight for freedom again. They marched to Mount Monmouth which was a draw, but it showed the British that the Continental Army had learned a lot at Valley Forge.
