Chris’s letter to Ron Franz espouses a number of philosophies that Chris believes in. The first part of Chris’s philosophy is to do things boldly that one may not have thought of doing previously. He also encourages people to change their situation so they can be happier in life. The fundamental basis of his philosophy is that the passion for adventure and the acceptance of trying new things is what brings joy to life. As he tells Mr. Franz, “Don’t settle down and sit in one place. Move around, be nomadic, make each day a new horizon.” (Krakauer 57) In this statement, he urges his friend to discover new things. For instance, he urges people to change their situation in order to be happy. I think that is a valid statement because no one should live life in and unhappy way, and the only way to switch that is to alter one’s lifestyle. His belief that humans should try new things in life is also a statement that is true. I believe that trying out new things really gives a person a better outlook of life. For instance, when we go to school, we try out new things in order to know what interests us. Chris’s adventure to Alaska is really based on this fundamental statement. He goes to Alaska because he has a passion for adventure. However, he also mentions the fact that Ron should stop looking for happiness in human relationships. I believe that human relationship are really the fundamental things in life that lessens one’s pain and moreover, provides them a emotional balance in time of grievances or struggles. Because Chris dies in the end in solitude, this statement may not be valid
