Dear Seattle Times Editor, My name is Ava Pappas and I’m an 8th grader at McClure middle school in Seattle. Did you know that every mother in America has the legal right to kill her unborn child up until the very moment of birth? Abortion is a very controversial issue in America and across the world. Here in the U.S, it is legal to have abortions in most States but the U.S should be making a more significant effort to make abortion illegal in all states. Abortion puts the mother at risk as well as an innocent human life and it's important to me that we are doing everything we can to preserve human life. Wade case, the United States Supreme Court declared abortion to be a fundamental right guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. While it is now legal in the U.S., many people continue to believe that abortion is murder and unborn babies are should also be considered human beings by the U.S. government not just the mother. Human rights should be extended to all human life including the fetus.According to nrlc.org (National Right to Life Coalition), there is a federal unborn victims act which states that “under federal law anybody intentionally killing or attempting to kill an unborn child should be punished”. If it isn't okay to kill the life of anybody else's unborn baby then it should not be okay to kill the life of your own unborn baby. I agree with this argument completely.“Abortion is actually violating our civil rights” according to lifenews.org. Kristi Burton Brown says “Civil rights are violated when people are deprived of their basic rights in a discriminatory fashion. Unborn children are deprived of life – the most basic right of all – simply based on their location (their mother’s womb) and their developmental status. This is discriminatory, inhumane, and cruel.” I think Brown’s statement sums up my beliefs perfectly, all humans deserve the right to live, birth should be a basic human right.Abortion violates unborns child 14th amendment rights for due process and equal protection Mike Hucklabee on cnsnews.com supports this argument when he says “Huckabee countered that what he actually believes is that an unborn baby is a person from the moment of conception and that the next president should “invoke the Fifth and Fourteenth amendments” in protecting their right to due process of law and equal protection of the law.” I agree with his proposal because it is protecting a human's right to
