The technology used to make stone tools in the middle Palaeolithic consisted of two main techniques, namely the Levalloisian technique and the Disk Core Technique. The Levalloisian technique was used to shape stone tools and weapons such as scrapers which were used to cut the skin off of animals, points, and knives. Tools made by the Levalloisian technique were made over a shorter period of time than other techniques and they are standardized. The Levalloisian Technique:
Advantages for using the Levalloisian technique include that the flakes being taken are already in a fundamental shape which means that they did not require much time or effort to shape before they could be used. The tools made by this technique are able to cut meat off of animals which means that it saved the Neanderthals that used these tools time and energy. Once they had the meat, they were able to cut and pierce the meat with the stone tools that they had made, the tool could be used to crush or cut the bones in order to get to the bone marrow stored inside.
