Many people think the battle for LGBTQA+ rights in the United States ends with our achievement of marriage equality. Unfortunately, it does not end there. In an article written by Jody L. Herman, Christy Mallory, and Bianca D.M. Wilson in March 2016, they state,”Nearly 300,000 transgender youth and adults may be negatively impacted by legislation introduced in 15 states. These bills would limit access to single-sex restrooms and locker rooms at schools and in public places; limit protections based on gender identity; permit individuals and businesses to discriminate against transgender people based on religious and moral beliefs; and limit the ability to change certain vital records documents, such as birth certificates, or enforce the use …show more content…

I am also compiling a list of future goals I want to do to get involved more with my community. I want to create art that challenges the mainstream comprehension of sexuality and gender, continue to blog about related content, and potentially start my own youtube channel. With the youtube channel, I want to contribute to the online LGTBQ+ community like Ryan Cassata. With that, I desire to create advice videos for queer youth. However, it was more with a group. As an adult, I want to not only be advocating with a group but individually as well through other methods to contribute more. The quote I got from Ryan Cassata’s song Hands of Hate,”Can we join together and learn not hate / And we join together in the arms of faith / Can we join together and be one human race?” (13-15) made me realize this. It reminded me that I want to be active in a community that still struggles with hate. I hope to follow Ryan Cassata’s example and make a difference.
